What To Expect

2 Appointments

First Appointment

During your initial appointment at Gentle Dental of Fort Belvoir, we will administer complete local anesthesia to ensure your comfort during the procedure. Dr. Nguyen will then proceed with a conservative tooth preparation, removing approximately 1.5 to 2mm of the tooth’s structure to create space for the porcelain crown.
After a meticulous assessment of the tooth’s shape and contours, we will take a 3D scan or impression of the affected tooth. This impression material will enable our skilled lab ceramist to craft and customize a porcelain crown that closely resembles your natural tooth in both look and feel.

We will also create a temporary crown, ensuring it is polished and securely cemented. Over the next two weeks, it’s advisable to avoid sticky foods near the treated tooth to prevent displacement of the temporary crown. In the rare event that the temporary crown comes loose, please try to reposition it promptly. If you encounter difficulties, don’t hesitate to visit our office at Gentle Dental of Fort Belvoir. Temporary crowns serve to protect against sensitivity and prevent the gums from covering the prepared margins of the tooth.

Second Appointment

During your second visit, we will remove the temporary crown and place the final porcelain crown for evaluation. A dental X-ray will be taken to verify the quality of the fit and ensure aesthetic satisfaction. We will then apply adhesive to the tooth and cement the interior of the porcelain crown in place. You will receive comprehensive instructions on how to maintain and care for your new crown.
